Cutting Taxes for Westmoreland County Families
Congressman Altmire cut taxes for more than 163,000 Westmoreland County families this year by voting for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Making Work Pay Tax Credit -- which went into effect on April 1, 2009 -- is the largest middle class tax cut in American history. With Americans struggling to make ends meet during this current economic recession, this tax cut will provide tax relief to 95 percent of working families. Congress on Your Corner Event Held in Murrysville
On April 18, 2009, Congressman Altmire held a casual meet-and-greet with local residents at a local pharmacy in Murrysville. Local residents talked with Congressman Altmire about what he is doing to revive America’s economy and bring more good paying jobs to western Pennsylvania.
Strengthening Resources for Local Law Enforcement
By voting for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Congressman Altmire provided nine Westmoreland County police departments with an additional $193,000 in federal funding to help them deter crime and keep local families safe. This funding will help to ensure that law enforcement officials facing budget shortfalls during this economic recession will still have the resources they need to be effective.
A Visit to Franklin Regional High School
On January 31, 2009, Congressman Altmire met with students at Franklin Regional High School to discuss what it is like to be a Member of Congress and answer their questions about the federal government. Congressman Altmire also talked with students about what he is doing to revive the economy.
Murrysville Community Day
On August 15, 2009, Congressman Altmire took part in the Murrysville Community Day celebration. Altmire participated in the opening ceremonies on the Main Stage and talked with local residents about their questions and concerns. Congressman Altmire also had a booth at the event where constituents could find helpful information about federal government services and initiatives.
