Here are additional details about some of Congressman Altmire’s activities in Butler County:

Cutting Taxes for Butler County Families
Congressman Altmire cut taxes for more than 83,000 Butler County families this year by voting for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Making Work Pay Tax Credit -- which went into effect on April 1, 2009 -- is the largest middle class tax cut in American history. With Americans struggling to make ends meet during this current economic recession, this tax cut will provide tax relief to 95 percent of working families. Buffalo Township Business Park
Congressman Altmire secured $339,000 in federal funding in the FY 2009 budget to help develop the Buffalo Township Business Park, a 50 + acre commercial development that will spur the development of technology-based businesses in Butler County. The site will feature a business incubator run by Carnegie Mellon University that will provide local entrepreneurs with expert advice that can help them expand their operations and create more good paying jobs. Talking to Local Seniors about Health Care Reform
The high cost of prescription drugs and other health care services has become a financial burden for many seniors across western Pennsylvania. As Congress debates how best to reform our nation’s health care system, Congressman Altmire has repeatedly met with local seniors to listen to their views. In May, Altmire participated in an AARP town hall on health care reform in Cranberry. In August, Congressman Altmire also visited the Cranberry Silver Sneakers program at the Schneider Family YMCA to talk to seniors about Medicare and health care reform.

Helping the Cranberry Police Department Purchase Needed Equipment
Congressman Altmire secured $100,000 for the Cranberry Police Department in the FY 2009 budget to help them purchase and upgrade communications equipment.  This improved equipment will help the Cranberry Police Department coordinate with other local police departments and improve public safety along Interstate 79, Interstate 76, State Route 19 and the surrounding communities.
